Officials of Colorado governmental entities, including special districts, should be aware that the maximum amount of damages recoverable against such entities for injuries caused by them or their employees, as the result of events occurring on or after July 1, 2013, will be increased due to an amendment to the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act.
For injury to one person in a single occurrence the maximum amount recoverable will be increased from $150,000 to $350,000.
For injury to two or more persons in a single occurrence the maximum amount recoverable will be increased from $600,000 to $990,000, with the amount recoverable by any one person such cases to be increased from $150, 000 to $350,000.
The maximum amounts recoverable will be increased on January 1, 2018, and every four years thereafter, for the following four year period based upon the Denver-Boulder-Greeley consumer price index. The Colorado Secretary of State will calculate and publish the amount of the adjustments.
