2012 Castle Rock Event Series

Downtown is the heart of Castle Rock, and it is home to several of the community’s most-loved events. Find farm-fresh vegetables, local honey and more at the Farmers Market running on Saturdays during the summer. Bring the kids out to watch their favorite movies on the big outdoor screen beginning in June. Feel community and national pride as you watch the Douglas County Fair Parade roll through the streets of Downtown Castle Rock in August. Buy a piece of fine art at Artfest. Even see Santa and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa for the annual Starlighting. These events and so many more will keeping you coming back to Downtown Castle Rock.Events downtown are organized by several different organizations, with the Downtown Merchants Association organizing eight of those events. E Rock Twilight Criterium: You can be a spectator or a participant in this fast-paced 5 km figure eight bike ride through downtown Castle Rock. (There will be a kids heat and a Castle Rock heat along.) As a prelude to the first Starlight Summer Movie the E Rock Twilight Criterium will be an event to enjoy. June 2, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. when awards are handed out and then A Dolphin Tale; a race of a different sort begins.

Starlight Summer Movie Series: The three Saturday night Starlight Summer Movies have become the cornerstone of the Event Series. Fun-for-all-agesmovies are shown on a giant, outdoor inflatable screen, bordered by sponsor banners. The entertainment before each movie includes live music, kids’ activities, as well as food and beverages from various vendors. The street fair opens at 5:00p.m., with the movie starting at about 8 p.m. All the fun happens at Festival Park, Perry and Second streets in Downtown Castle Rock.

Classic Rock Cruise-In: More than 250 of the most beautiful cars on the Front Range lined the streets of downtown in 2011 for the first Cruise In. And what goes better with cool cars than cool music? The event pairs music with race cars, vintage convertibles and other collectible automobiles. This June 16 event runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wilcox, Third, Fourth and Jerry streets.

Fido Fest: Fido Fest attracts the many dog lovers in the Castle Rock area. Fido Fest features fun activities, interesting demonstrations and a “Flea Market” offering a variety of great pet-related products. Fido Fest is July 14, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Festival Park, Perry and Second streets in Downtown Castle Rock.

Rawhide at the Rock: The second Starlight Summer Movie starts with a celebration of all things Western. The spirit of the Old West will be kicking around Festival Park before the showing of The Apple Dumpling Gang. On August 4, 5 p.m. festivities start, with the movie starting at 8 p.m. Join us as we kick off a week of Western with Rawhide at the Rock and the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo.

Starlight Movie #3: We end our Starlight Movie Series with a showing of Zookeeper. Join us for fun and frivolity September 15. Fun starts at 5 p.m. Movie begins at 8 p.m.

Oktoberfest: More than 70 food, craft and vendor booths provide a fun-for-the-whole-family event including kids’ activities, great shopping opportunities, live German bands and beer – creating the quintessential Oktoberfest experience. Oktoberfest is Oct. 6, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Festival Park and along Second and Perry streets.

Trick or Treat Street: Trick or treat. Costume contests. Pumpkin patch. It’s all part of this event, which is coordinated jointly by the Merchants Association and the Town of Castle Rock. Trick or Treat Street is quickly becoming parents’ go-to community event for safe Halloween fun. This year the event is Oct. 31, with the costume contest and festival at Festival Park at Perry and Second streets, while trick-or-treating runs from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at downtown businesses.
