With this in mind, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Office of Emergency Management and the Board of Douglas County Commissioners are once again demonstrating their mutual commitment to the safety of Douglas County’s communities with the release of a public safety campaign with one very strong call-to-action: sign up for the free CodeRed! Emergency Notification System at www.douglascountyCodeRed.com (CODERED Notifications)
“Last year’s wildfires were not only the most destructive in Colorado history, they serve as a constant reminder that citizen readiness and responsiveness are critical to individual safety,” said Jill Repella, Chair, Board of Douglas County Commissioners.
The “Know When to Go” campaign features actual footage of the Waldo Canyon fire shot by the Colorado Springs Fire Department; as well as footage of a family escaping from the Lower North Fork fire. “There is no more powerful way to portray the destructive and frightening circumstances of a wildfire than through experiencing an actual fire through someone else’s eyes,” said Repella.
Douglas County Sheriff David A. Weaver strongly encourages citizens to be aware of the threat of Wildfire and sign up for CodeRED! “I am asking citizens to be mindful and prepared in the event of an emergency,” he said. “CodeRED is one strategic tool we use when time is of the essence to save lives.” The life you save by signing-up may be yours, or someone in your family.”
