One of the most problematic effects of getting charged with Driving Under the Influence is facing a revocation of your driving privileges.
Through recent changes of the DUI laws in Colorado, in many cases, the length of a driver’s license revocation can be greatly reduced by installing an interlock device on your vehicle.
In most cases, even a first-time DUI offense will result in a nine month revocation of your driving license, if you do not timely request a hearing with the Colorado Department of Revenue. Most seasoned DUI attorneys always recommend that you request a hearing and that you obtain an attorney to help advocate for you at the hearing.
If you lose the hearing or fail to timely request one, most drivers can usually reduce the length of revocation to only thirty days by obtaining an ignition interlock through the early reinstatement program. There are many procedural steps required prior to being able to drive through the early reinstatement program, including: Providing proof of SR22 automobile insurance, completing an “Alcohol Certification form”, completing a reinstatement application, paying a $95 reinstatement fee, completing a notarized affidavit describing the interlock device installed in the vehicle(s), and completing a signed copy of the interlock leasing agreement (check with the Department for conditions pertaining to your case or call DUI lawyer at 303-688-3045 to assist you).
For second or third DUI convictions, or for first DUI convictions where your breath alcohol contact (BrAC) was 0.17 or more, you will likely have to enroll in a Level II alcohol education course prior to obtaining early reinstatement of your driving privileges. Additionally, you will be required to maintain an interlock device on your vehicle for two years following the reinstatement of your driving privileges.
There are many exceptions and various ways in which the period of revocation can be longer or shorter based upon the facts of the particular case and the driving history.
